The International Ecological Textile Association (Oeko-Tex Association) was founded by the German Institute for Textile Research and the Austrian Textile Research Institute in 1992. It is currently composed of textile testing institutions and their representatives from various countries around the world, including Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In April 1992, the association developed the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 testing standard for textiles.
