The World Acupuncture Society (WAS) is an international non-governmental organization registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and is a federation of non-governmental therapeutic acupuncture groups that has established a formal relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO). WAS was established in 1998 and has become one of the WHO's non-governmental organization members. The purpose of WAS is to promote understanding and cooperation among members of the World Acupuncture Community, strengthen international academic exchange, further develop acupuncture medicine, and continuously improve its status and role in world health care, ultimately contributing to the health and well-being of human beings.
